First Run Discs
A First Run disc is the first production run or batch of a particular disc golf disc that a company makes. First run discs are often sought after by disc golf collectors and enthusiasts because they represent the original production. It is common for manufacturers to market these first run discs as special and potentially rare, which can make them more desirable among collectors.
Why are First Run discs something very special?
When a new disc model is introduced to the market, a limited quantity is often produced in the first series, and these discs are called First Run discs. Regardless of whether you want to play with the disc or have it in your collection, they are therefore quickly sought after. Many collectors prefer to have the first run of a new disc model in their collections to show the history behind the disc's development and launch.
How can you recognize a First Run disc?
The different manufacturers have different ways of marking their first run discs. It can be special types of plastic, special plastic colors or very special stamps. One of the best known and sought after in recent times is Kastaplast's mint green first run discs. The mint green plastic is used exclusively for first runs and they are therefore very easy to recognize. Discraft, on the other hand, has a small and more discreet addition of the text "First Run" to the descent stamp.
